The Role
The role of Utility Worker / Drillers Assistant is to provide support to the Driller and drilling team in the recovery and presentation of samples through safe, cost effective and professional practices in order that client expectations are met or exceeded achieving operational performance targets,. Ensuring that adequate duty of care is exercised in all aspects the appointed duties and responsibilities, personal presentation, behaviour, conduct and compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and any site specific rules which may apply within varying mine site operations
Duties and Responsibilities
Utility Worker: A person who is being trained and/or performs the following duties and responsibilities including but not limited to:
•Cleaning up around the base.
•Cleaning vehicles
•Assisting other team members as required
Driller's Assistant: A person who is trained in and/or is competent to perform duties and exercise responsibilities relevant to the operation of (but not limited to):
•Load, drive and unload heavy vehicles.
•Operate ancillary equipment
•Assist to set up/dismantle/move drill rigs and equipment
•Add/remove drill rods/augers and other down hole tools
•Mix and test drilling fluids/chemicals/cement
•Collect/layout/pack/label/despatch formation samples and cores
•Clean drill rigs, vehicles, equipment and tools
•Perform routine service and maintenance on drill rigs, vehicles, ancillary equipment and tools.
•Assist with repairs and overhauls
•Check safety equipment
•Perform basic first aid where required
Reporting Relationships
The position reports directly to the Driller and has working relationships with associated BLY office and field staff and has a close working relationship with the clients at site.
Remuneration
We offer an industry competitive salary package covered by the Boart Longyear Australia Drilling Services Collective Workplace Agreement 2008.
Training Program
Boart Longyear has an industry leading in-house training program that allows employees to start as a Utility Worker and work their way through to a Senior Driller. This industry recognised training is provided on the job and enables employees to progress from a Certificate II in Drilling to a trade qualified Certificate IV in Mineral Exploration Drilling within a 4 to 5 year time frame. A Diploma and Advanced Diploma are also available for Supervisors and Managers.
Conditions of Work
The Drilling Industry is hard physical work carried out in difficult and often extreme climatic conditions. The temperatures can be anything between 40 degrees C to close to zero. You will have to put up with dust, dirt, mud, grease and insects. The work may be underground or on the surface. While the work is interesting, many tasks will be routine, repetitive and at times menial. Work sites can be almost anywhere. Usually, they are located in remote areas.
Rosters
This posion will be required to work a rotating roster of 2 weeks on, 1 week off. The standard working day is 12 hours.

Selection Criteria
The right person will possess or be working towards the following position requirements:
•HR Drivers License (preferred)
•Senior First Aid Certificate
•National Police Clearance
•Ability to complete a rigorous pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol screening
•Any other certificates e.g. working at Heights, 4WD training, Confined space etc would be an advantage
