A DISPUTE over a parking space led to a car slamming into a Gouger St restaurant in the city this morning, narrowly missing half a dozen diners.
Witnesses say the driver of a green sedan had a heated exchange with another driver over a parking spot near Victoria Square about 10.45am.
SA Police Constable Philip Walsh said the driver then accelerated west down Gouger St towards Passatempo Caffe, opposite the Central Market.
"He didn’t get the car park and sped up the road; he says the accelerator got stuck and he’s accelerated at high speed and ended up in the wall after hitting another car," he said.
A grey hatchback turning into Market St was rear-ended, slowing the green sedan which still managed to crash through the restaurant's window.
"If that car hadn’t be there, he would have gone straight through the window and there was half a dozen people sitting there in the restaurant," Constable Walsh said.
Nobody was injured, but the green sedan narrowly missed hitting a young boy crossing Gouger St with his father.
Police said the driver is not facing any charges at this stage.
