The House was built in 1839/40 as the home and office of the Governor of South Australia and for providing
Vice Regal hospitality. It is occupied by the current Governor,
His Excellency Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce AC CSC RANR and Mrs Liz Scarce.
It’s the oldest current Government House in Australia - the second oldest continuously occupied house in Adelaide.
Ÿ Displays and memorabilia of historic significance, including original documents
Ÿ The State dining table set with silver and crystal for a formal dinner
Ÿ Australian paintings on loan from the Art Gallery of South Australia
Ÿ See where the police inspector was murdered in 1862.
Trees For Life Inc will be presenting displays and information, with a kid’s corner.
Staff and friends of the House will be on hand to guide you.
Garden tours will be provided by The Friends of the Botanic Gardens of Adelaide.
Members of the Victoriana Society of South Australia Inc will be dressed in period costumes.
Refreshments, including wine and cheese, will be available for purchase, benefiting Trees For Life Inc.
Musical entertainment will be provided by Brighton Secondary School, Second Wind Ensemble, Accolade,
The Botherers, DJ Henri and the Pipes & Drums of the Royal Caledonian Society.
Government House is located on the north-east corner of North Terrace & King William Road, Adelaide.
